Meet Melissa and Hannah, a mother-daughter duo who are both living with type I HAE.
“I can’t imagine having to do this alone. And, not only is it somebody that I just know, it’s my mom...We would make a day out of going to the doctor, and it became one of my favorite days of the year – going to the doctor – because we got that special time together.” - Hannah
It was a pleasure speaking with Shimmy, a New Jersey native who was diagnosed with HAE in adulthood and experienced his first attack while attending synagogue.
“My children and grandchildren are everything to me, my wife and I. That's our life. And I want to spend as much time with them because life can be short.”
Meet Nathan, a college student studying finance who was diagnosed with HAE at 8 years old.
“It was a pretty easy decision to take a preventative medication. I kind of got to a point in high school where I was like, ‘I'm having too many attacks to kind of live a normal life – I'm missing too much school, missing too many extracurricular activities.’”
We were thrilled to have the opportunity to get to know Jasmine, a 21 year-old college student living with type I HAE. Jasmine is a horseback rider, aspiring veterinarian, and HAE advocate.
“This is not something I would have paid attention to in the past, but as the years went by, I couldn’t ignore it.”
Meet Kim, executive recruiter living with type II HAE. Kim remembers her first attack at 8 years old, but it took her 25 years to get a formal diagnosis. Ever since, she’s been motivated to support the HAE community as an advocate and a participant in clinical trials.
“Getting on a preventative treatment for HAE was life changing for me. Prior to that I was scared to go anywhere that was too far away from a hospital.”
